REVIEWS

In 2026 we averaged a whopping 10/10 from our Pitchup.com customers and  5 stars fropm our reviews on Q-Book!  The uncrowded setting, next to the river is truly unique and this year we managed to get a lot of our ideal camping party; Families with kids.  What I notice is the happy look on the faces of our guests as they leave!

Liked: Exactly the sort of holiday we wanted. Beautiful, tranquil location and back-to-basics facilities. We could relax here and enjoy the local attractions in the Porthmadog vicinity.

The bell tent was spacious and warm. The kitchen had everything we needed for making meals and the river was a great distraction for the kids.

Our host Max was welcoming, helpful and resourceful.

We would love to come again and explore more of this beautiful area.

Liked: A superb site, the location was amazing with truly fantastic views. The site was well maintained and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The owner, Max, was lovely, attentive and extremely helpful. We certainly plan on staying again in the future.

Liked: Exclusive location and setup. Right on the riverbank so you always hear the water flow nearby. You can listen to it before sleep in your tent! Only two tents so it will never be crowded. Very private. Each pitch has its own kitchen with cool box, double gas stove, all the cutlery and plates, cups and glasses.

Absolutely amazing hikes around, from 1800s slate mine in the mountains with still existing reservoir where you can wild swim to jaw dropping waterfalls with crystal clear water "swimming pools".

It is close to all the other "main stream" attractions but Max kindly suggested to stay in the valley. Ant we did not regret this decision.

Max was super kind and helpful all the time, he even brought us some goods from the butcher and tesco to save our precious time in the nature.

I hope we'll have a chance to come back

Disliked:Minor issue with the toilet which Max fixed right away.

Liked: Such a peaceful and relaxing stay. There are only two tents on the site, including ours, which made it feel really private and exclusive. The campsite is only open for 28 days each August as it’s located on National Trust land, so it felt extra special staying there.

Everything you need is provided, from a hot shower and outdoor kitchen with pots, pans, kettle, plates, cutlery and a gas stove, to a sink with running river water. There’s also a cool box with ice packs, so just bring all the food you fancy! Max sent a very detailed email the day before with clear directions and everything we needed to know.

Max was a fantastic and very accommodating host. He kindly lent my friend a towel when she forgot hers, offered us fresh eggs and was always happy to help whenever we saw him. His hospitality really made the stay even more enjoyable.

Disliked:As first time campers, some aspects of the experience were new to us, including the compost toilet facilities, but everything was well explained before arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the unique camping experience.
